Cornell Unveils CeraPiper: Custom Ceramic Cooling System

Cornell University in Ithaca has announced a new project designed to deploy evaporative cooling in a novel way. The Matter of Tech Lab at Cornell Tech has developed a system called CeraPiper. This fabrication system creates customized sizes and shapes of ceramic pipes using an extrusion process. The ceramic pipes can be shaped on demand, fitted together, and then filled with water to provide cooling. Lab director Thijs Roumen, an assistant professor at Cornell Tech and Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science, led the project along with two lab members.
