MacLeod Earns Silver in World Chessboxing Championship

Will MacLeod ’26 from Cornell University College of Arts and Sciences earned a silver medal for Team USA at the World Chessboxing Championships in Serbia in September 2025. Chessboxing is a competition that alternates between three-minute chess rounds and three-minute boxing rounds, with a one-minute rest period between each round. MacLeod, a math major from Amherst, MA, had only three months of training before competing in the event. He explained that the sport requires athletes to quickly switch between a mental, analytical state for chess and a reactive, physical state for boxing.
