The Syracuse VA Medical Center will host a Lung Cancer Screening Day on November 21, 2024, from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. This event is designed for individuals who may qualify based on specific criteria. To be eligible, participants must be between 50 and 80 years old, currently smoke cigarettes or have quit within the past 15 years, and have a smoking history of at least 20 pack-years.

A "pack-year" is calculated by the number of packs smoked per day multiplied by the number of years smoked. For example, 20 pack-years could mean smoking one pack a day for 20 years or two packs a day for 10 years.

The Syracuse VA Medical Center invites those who meet these requirements to attend for a same-day screening. The screening takes less than an hour and could potentially save lives.
