Cornell Doctor Tackles Tanzania’s Schistosomiasis Crisis

Dr. Jennifer Downs of Weill Cornell Medicine is working with Tanzanian researchers to develop treatments for schistosomiasis, a parasitic worm infection that affects approximately 250 million people worldwide. Dr. Downs has extensive experience working in Tanzania through her long-term association with Weill Bugando School of Medicine, a partner of Weill Cornell Medicine. In a statement, Downs described schistosomiasis as a "horrifying disease" and highlighted the severity of the infection in Tanzania.
