Professor Nan Crystal Arens from Hobart and William Smith Colleges has been awarded a National Science Foundation grant to lead research on microplastics in the Finger Lakes watershed. The study will examine how plastic pollution moves through the environment and potentially enters food and water systems. Students from HWS will work alongside researchers from the City College of New York on the project. The research builds on several years of microplastics studies conducted on campus, including two Honors projects by Chase Bell ’22 and Heather Kerns ’24.
