**Onondaga County Emergency Communications Center Seeks Reaccreditation**
**Syracuse, New York –** The Onondaga County Department of Emergency Communications (E-911) is scheduled for an assessment for re-accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) from November 18 to 20, 2024.
An assessment team, made up of law enforcement and communications professionals from agencies in other states, will review the department’s policies, procedures, management, operations, and support services. This will involve examining written materials, conducting interviews, and observing compliance in practice.
To achieve re-accredited status, the department must meet 208 specific standards set by CALEA. Accreditation is a reflection of professionalism and excellence within the department and, if granted, will last for four years, contingent on continued compliance with CALEA standards.
Captain Tanya Perry (Retired) from the City of Conyers (GA) Police Department will lead this year’s assessment team. Captain Perry began her career with the DeKalb County (GA) Department of Emergency Communications as a Senior Communications Operator.
For those interested, a copy of the standards can be reviewed through the Onondaga County website or by contacting the department directly.
