Geneva Students Engage in Youth Law Day
Students from Geneva High School recently participated in Youth Law Day at Syracuse University. The program was attended by Early College High School scholars, Social Justice Club activists, and Practical Law students from Geneva City Schools. During the full-day event, students engaged in activities focused on law, leadership, and civic engagement.
Participants met the Honorable Joseph Bianco, who led a mock Cinderella trial designed to provide insight into legal reasoning and courtroom procedures. In addition to the trial, an attorney panel with professionals from various legal fields took place. There was also a session on negotiation strategies, and students had lunch with local judges during an open question-and-answer session.
A notable moment occurred when a student named Valeria answered a question posed by Judge Bianco. She received a peace sash signed by Mary Beth Tinker, a free speech activist whose work continues to influence modern understanding of constitutional rights.
