Payton Kingwater, a student at Utica University, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Central New York (CNY) Accounting & Finance Women’s Alliance (AFWA) in recognition of her high academic achievement and strong extracurricular involvement. The scholarship was presented during the CNY AFWA’s student scholarship dinner held in Syracuse on October 29th, 2024.

Kingwater is a double major in Accounting and Fraud and Financial Crime Investigation. To qualify for the scholarship, applicants needed to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.8 and demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities related to accounting. Over 30 students from five local colleges and universities applied for the scholarship.

Kingwater plans to attend law school after graduation, aiming to combine her knowledge of accounting with legal studies to better assist others and serve as a role model for women pursuing careers in accounting.
